Welcome to this snorkeling guide. Here you will find many of articles dedicated solely to the great sports of snorkeling. This site is devoted to those who wish to start snorkeling and even for those seasoned snorkelers who wish to polish or improve their snorkeling skills.

So let us start... What makes snorkeling such a great swimming activity? Through the use of a diving mask and an apparatus called a snorkel you are able to breath through your mouth when underwater. Additional equipment may also be used to provide a greater level of comfort. Swim fins may be used to provide the snorkeler with greater agility whilst wetsuits besides protecting you from the elements will keep you comfy enough in chilled waters.

This sports is an alternative to scuba diving, although much cheaper snorkeling can be great fun. Even in the first few feet underwater, the environment can provide you with loads of attractions such as a variety of fish, fauna and other underwater creatures in their natural habitat settings.

The great thing about snorkeling is that it is an activity which can be practiced by al different age groups.  Encouraging kids to start this sports is also a great way to improve their confidence in the water. This will eventually improve their swimming skills and make them aware of their surroundings. If you want to learn more on how to start your kids into snorkeling, then I suggest that you refer to the snorkeling guide which is dedicated to Snorkeling for Kids.

Snorkeling can also be a great family outing...Many prefer to snorkel along a beach as leisure however how about hiring a boat and snorkel secluded areas which are still untouched. This type of snorkeling gives you the impression like you are the first person to ever explore the environment and yes sometimes it could be.

How about as a first date with a difference...hehe taking a special someone to your special place will give great impressions...

Another variant of snorkeling is Skin diving. However skin diving also known as Free Diving or Apnea is when snorkeling is taken to a different level. More sophisticated equipment is required for this sports. Through experience and adequate training, divers can hold their breath for extensive periods of time.

An offspring of skin diving is Spear fishing. This is an ancient method of fishing that has been used throughout the world for centuries. Today spear fishing employs modern elastic or compressed air powered spear guns to hunt fish. It is a highly selective form of fishing, with a low amount of unintended by-catch. Giving the proper education and regulations, spear fishing can be an ecologically sustainable form of fishing. However, it is to be noted that in certain jurisdictions this sports is banned.
