Snorkel Vest - Do we really need to use floatation vests during our snorkeling outings?

Unlike the mask and snorkel which are required for snorkeling, the snorkeling vest is another piece of snorkeling equipment which is optional. The majority of floatation vests today come with a small tube and a valve that is attached to the side of the vest so that you will be to inflate or deflate the vest at will when you need a little more or less buoyancy in the water.

Although this is basically a floatation vest, the snorkel vests are not specifically designed to be used as life vests, they will help you improve your buoyancy whilst you are snorkeling. By wearing a snorkeling vest, you will be able to relax and focus more on what's going on around you.

Snorkeling vests in fact are great for those people who may not be themselves the strongest of swimmers. They are also great way to will assist kids with learning to swim and will make any swimming activity safer for them due to the increased buoyancy.

Another great benefit for using snorkeling vests is that they will offer you with much needed protection from the harmful UV rays. Remember when you are snorkeling, your back is exposed to the sun most of the time, so it may be wise to invest in a snorkeling vest.

To use or not to use a snorkeling vest?

The question you might be asking yourself is do I really need to use a snorkel vest? Well that depends upon the type of snorkeling activity you usually prefer to undertake. For instance, If you intend to just admire the scenery by just floating from the water's surface, then I would recommend that you invest in one. Another reason you may want to invest in a snorkeling vest would be if you tend to be one of those persons who feel that they are less buoyant in the water or feel that you are limited in your swimming skills.

However this does not mean that snorkeling vests should not be worn by experienced snorkelers. For does snorkelers who plan to snorkel for extensive periods, it could prove a benefit by allowing them to rest and stay afloat for periods of time. This is especially the case if your objective is to snorkel quite a distance from the shore.

Should you on the other hand intend to frequently dive deeper during your snorkeling excursion, then it is not worth using the snorkel vest as you definitely will not get below. So the bottom line is invest in this piece of snorkeling gear if you fall under one of the criteria mentioned above.. If on the other hand you are an experienced snorkeler, you may never know when it will come to good use.
