The Dive Watch -  All you need to know about scuba diving watches

A dive watch is a great piece  of scuba equipment having the additional benefits that apart from using it for your dives, you can also use it for everyday use.

A great classical style of scuba diver watch will definitely highlight your passion for the underwater world.

Today this piece of scuba gear has become so popular that non divers may often choose this style of watch as a fashion statement.

The high end automatic scuba diving watches are pretty awesome, and many choose to collect them just because they are great pieces of craftsmanship.

There are many different dive watches on the market. The problem is in knowing which are worth investing in.

If you intend to use your watch when diving, you should then be knowledgeable enough to know on how it works. You have to know what you are buying since you are depending upon your scuba diver    watch to keep track of your dive.

As a diver, you understand that part of your scuba diving safety boils down to keeping track of time, depth, direction, temperature and air supply. Every dive must have a time limit that must not be exceeded because your body will absorb amounts of nitrogen during each dive and it’s important to keep this nitrogen within acceptable limits by monitoring your dive time.

A scuba diver watch is one of the pieces of scuba equipment which will serve you as a reference for this information at a glance. It’s function is to assist you to log your time below the water.

At a minimum, true scuba watches must be depth rated meaning that it is capable of withstanding water pressure equivalent to at least 100 meters deep and be rugged enough to withstand accidental blows and the corrosive effects of the sea water.

The best dive watches should conform to the ISO 6425 standards, which indicated that the required standards have been reached in quality testing and the features for the watch are suitable for scuba diving in depths of 100m or more.

Watches that meet this standard are marked with the word "Divers" to allow easier identification of genuine diving watches from other non-divers watches that often may appear similar in design but are not in fact suitable for diving purposes.

The most commonly used styles by scuba divers are the analog and digital versions. Analog diver watches are the classical display versions where time is displayed by pointers. Digital watches on the other hand contain a numerical display. However there are some scuba diver watches which contain a combination of both.

What ever style of scuba diving watch you go for, one of the most important features that a scuba diver watch should have is the capability of measuring elapsed time.

Analog scuba watches measure elapsed time against a rotating scale known as a bezel which you set at the beginning of the dive whilst digital watches measure elapsed time through a stop watch function. It is important that what ever type of scuba diving watch you have, you have to check them before and after each dive.
